It's
Friday night at Sushi 'N Rock, Lawrence Like is winding up the
crowd with a hearty guitar rendition of Back in Black. Emulating
AC/DC's Angus Young is a tradition now, and one Like uses to kick
off a rousing game of "Name That Tune." Winners are
sometimes rewarded with free drinks from Like, who owns the restaurant
with his wife, Suzanne.
But
that's not all the rock 'n roll Sushi 'N Rock serves up.
The restaurant pays homage to rock
not only with the rock memorabilia that decorates the walls, the
Wurlitzer jukebox in the corner, the Karaoke nights, the concert
nights and the Battle of the Guitar nights, but with the food,
itself.
All
the sushi rolls are named after rock 'n roll groups, as well as
a specific album. For example, The Zeppelin Roll offers a crisp
cucumber, packed with spicy tuna, creamy crab mix, avocado, and
is topped with baked scallops. The presentation of the cucumber
makes it look like a zeppelin. The ZZ Top Roll, "She's Got
Legs," offers a soft shell crab stuffed with fresh crab mix,
yamagabo, avocado, cucumber, and topped with spicy salmon. The
legs of the crab are perfect for the song title.
Thursday,
Friday, Saturday and Sunday are Karaoke nights. The Karaoke contest
is on Thursday nights where winners can receive gift certificates
to the restaurant and other prizes.
For
those less inclined to sing and more inclined to play an instrument,
the weekend's Battle of the Guitars (other instruments are also
welcome) offers a chance to hook up to the restaurant's electronics
and try your hand at emulating an artist or song for gift certificates
as well.
But
things at Sushi 'N Rock don't slow down during the week.
